Possibly The Best Seat In Chester
As you’d guess, most of our business is done in Chester. Yes, Zooming into a meeting to talk through a web project or discuss a design issue was so handy during the pandemic, but face-to-face meet ups are so much better. Our place is nice, but if there’s a chance to have a change of scenery and meet up at our clients places, we’re well up for it.
Between appointments, Chester’s always had an abundance of places to spend anywhere from a couple of minutes to half an hour or so to grab a coffee and catch up on emails. A favourite haunt of ours for years had been Costa Coffee on the first floor of WH Smith on Foregate Street, especially if a window seat was available. The view, looking out past the clock up to Eastgate Street was something to look forward to, while struggling to get a data connection (what is it with Chester’s o2 and Three coverage?).
And then the unthinkable happened. That little branch of Costa and it’s beautiful view were gone.
Obviously, there are plenty of other great viewpoints of Chester and some even better cups of coffee to be had elsewhere (black, no sugar – always). But I, for one, missed this particular one. That was until I came across Huxleys.
On the opposite side of the road, on the opposite side of the Eastgate Clock, Huxleys is a small coffee shop that opened up in 2022 that could be easily missed. The steps to reach it are next to the crepe pancake place.
This is the view from the what is possibly the best seat in one of Chester’s finest listed buildings.

There’s another view, which will wait for another time, through a porthole window that looks up towards Watergate Street and out towards the Welsh Hills.
