Katie’s physiotherapy clinic on Lower Bridge Street already had a website that was performing well on Google and had served her well for years.

Katie wanted a more contemporary look and feel for her site, new photos, and wanted to be able to give her team of physiotherapists the ability to update the website and a blog themselves.

A series of Wildlife courses and workshops on a nature reserve close to Chester commence in Spring and Summer 2012. We were tasked with designing and building a simple, brochure website to support them.

The site features stunning wildlife photos taken by ecologist, Julia Drage, Youtube videos taken at Church Stretton in the Cheshire countryside.

Users are able to book places on the half day and full day courses by making payment via Paypal buttons.

The website features an easy to use Content Management System, and it can be updated from pc’s and mobile phones.

]]> We’ve just completed two new business videos for Cheshire radio station, Silk 106.9

Business Overview Video

The station overview video features Breakfast and Drive Time presenters Andy Bailey and Andy Clewes and was shot over the course of two days in and around Macclesfield, Chester, Jodrell Bank and Congleton. We were also given exclusive access to Macclesfield Town’s Football Stadium for a sequence that featured the station and club mascots.

Customer Testimonial Video

Perhaps one of the most powerful and persuasive of videos is the testimonial. This short sequence, that required our huge white screen and lots of lighting to bleach it out, was filmed in a spare office at the radio station’s base.

]]> Sometimes it can be really difficult to keep good news to yourself, especially when you want to shout about it from the rooftops of Chester.

Roodee has been commissioned to completely re-code and deliver a new web design for the number one radio station in the City, Dee 106.3. The new website will have even more interactive features than the two previous versions that have been widely used the people of Chester for over five years.

When local people need essential information, this is the website that they turn to, so it will feature the latest news – from the only newsroom in Cheshire – along with the latest from Dee 106.3’s dedicated sports department.

As one of the first adopters of a Facebook presence, the station’s following is in the thousands, so the new site will give listeners new ways of interacting.

]]> I felt sorry for the poor guy standing in front of me at Glee, a major trade show for the garden and leisure industry.

He believed his new invention would revolutionise the world of hanging baskets and was trying to persuade the three Garden Angels (inspired by Dragons’ Den) that this was going to be a great seller.

The Angels were having none of it, pointing out flaw after flaw.

The killer blow came at the end. In doing their homework on him and his product the night before they had scrutinised his website and waved an embarrassing print out that highlighted all of the spelling mistakes.

Iffy spelling is one sure way to shatter confidence in your business as it can give a poor view of you. It’s one of the main causes of the dreaded ‘bounce’ (when visitors only view one page of your site before hitting the ‘back’ button). He needed to come up with an amazing answer to get out of this one as it was plain to see that they had gone through more red ink than an exasperated English teacher.

His excuse? The web design company that he had used had contracted to someone else. It was them that had made the errors, not him. The audience took a collective deep breath. The Angels shook their heads. And with that his time was up.

As I say, I felt sorry for the guy, although he should have taken ownership of the problem. He left the stage to a sympathetic and rather limp ‘squatting ovation’ (Copyright Les Dawson).

Postscript

I became very paranoid after writing this post… What about any mistakes that were waiting to be discovered on our own site? We didn’t have to wait too long until two bonus apostrophes were highlighted in red ink.

This photo taken just outside Lime Street Station in Liverpool makes us smile. We had to get up very early (on a Sunday morning) to see if they can keep this promise.

Less funny is the promise made by some Search Engine Optimisation specialists who promise a number one position on Google. Any honest practitioner in this field will tell you that it is impossible to make this guarantee due to a number of variables outside of their control. Google makes about lots of adjustments to its algorithm (its brain) every year to keep many steps ahead of those that try to skew the results of searches.

There are things that can be done to improve your chance of an improved position:

We were on a location shoot for product photos (of a combine harvester), but this is our favourite photograph from the session this week. This field in Holt, close to Wrexham and Chester, was mid way through a combine harvester shearing its way through a crop of hops when the light conditions gave us this great shot.

Harvesting of crops such as hops can only be carried out when the conditions are right as we found out when we took some great product photography shots of the Lexion 580 Combine Harvester below. The humidity must be just right as a damp or wet crop will perish when it is stored.
